"Whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow in more light." –Vera Nazarian
Reading has always been essential for me. As far back as I can remember, I'd hide away in my room, many times under the covers long after my bed time, lost in a good book! Teaching English Language Arts allows me to share my love of reading & writing with the next generation.
I'm excited to be headed into my 11th year of teaching! Throughout my years of experience, I've had the honor to teach every grade from 6th grade to seniors in high school! Before I was a teacher, I was a student just like you! I went to Cathedral High School in St. Cloud, MN & then headed further north to Bemidji State University where I received my Bachelor of Science in English and Communications, & my Bachelor of Arts in Creative and Professional Writing.
My favorite thing to be, other than a teacher, is a wife & a mommy! I have a 3-year-old little girl named Hadley, and little boy due in May. I'm sure you'll hear me talk about both of them a lot! Outside of the classroom, I have many other interests as well. As I mentioned earlier, I’m an avid reader & writer, but I am also a "new" yoga enthusiast, an amateur photographer, I love to travel, I enjoy biking, canoeing, fishing, camping, playing & coaching volleyball, as well as watching the Wild, Twins, & Packers, and being out on the lake or visiting my parents in Florida!
I'm looking forward to this coming school year with each of you! I believe education is an individual experience for every student who enters my classroom. I believe each and every one of you has the potential to bring something special to the world. I will help you develop your abilities by believing in you as a capable individual. Every classroom presents a unique community of learners that varies not only in abilities, but also in learning styles. My role is to give you the tools you need to be successful, and help you recognize and achieve your full potential. As your English teacher, I will incorporate themes, integrated units, projects, group work, individual work, and hands-on learning in order to make you an active learner on a daily basis.
Thank you for being a part of our classroom community! It's going to be a great year full of reading, writing, critical thinking, and of course, a lot of fun!
